New chapters in this edition deal with Composite Construction and Design for Fire, according to the principles of the recently published Parts 3.1 and 8 respectively of BS 5950. Additionally, modifications have been made to the first six chapters to bring them fully in line with the 1990 version of Part 1 of BS 5950. Although intended primarily as a student text, with worked examples, problems for further practice and references to additional reading, much of the material should also be suitable for practitioners wishing to acquaint themselves with the methods of BS 5950.
