A gripping story of the plight of a desperate group of jewish refugees who leave Romania to escape a brutal regime but end up facing an even worse fate. Despite being a true story, the tragic events unfold in a way that makes it compulsive reading. The factual information has been meticulously unearthed and the juxtoposition of wartime events with a latterday attempt by a family member to find out more about his lost relatives is a technique which keeps the reader enthralled. Personal focus on individual victims, especially David Stoliar, the sole survivor of the disaster make this story all the more moving. I highly recommend this book.
