is a comic book about a samurai and his journey to rescue the woman he loves, written by Ron Marz with art by Luke Ross and published by Dark Horse Comics. The title refers to an oath he swore to return to her ("I will allow nothing in Heaven or on Earth to come between us."). The story spans at least three 5-issue miniseries, the first of which appeared in 2005 and was collected as a trade paperback a year later. The second miniseries began in December of 2006 and ended in mid 2007. The trade paperback was published late in 2007. In late July 2007, Darkhorse started its . The first issue contained a short Samurai: H & E comic, which takes place between issues 2 and 3 of Volume 1. The third miniseries has yet to begin, likely to start anytime soon. One of the most transpicuous demonstrations of how an artist can successfully communicate intensity through a minimum of panels, yet maintain lavish illustrations. Stunning.
The samurai Shiro followed his kidnapped love, Lady Yoshiko, across eighteenth-century Europe and Asia, only to have her slip through his fingers in the fabulous halls of Versailles, where she was stolen away by a villainous Spanish nobleman. Now Shiro's steadfast pursuit leads him across the Mediterranean, to the sands of fabled Egypt, where Yoshiko has been made a prized trophy in a desert warlord's harem. With the glorious ruins of ancient Egypt as a backdrop, Shiro will make a final stand, and be reunited with Yoshiko no matter the cost . . . "I think Luke and I were initially excited about taking the story into the desert because of the visual possibilities. A samurai among the Egyptian ruins is really a striking image," writer Marz said. "But as we got into it, the setting provided just a wealth of great story material. The story took us where it wanted to go, and Luke and I just held on for the ride." --
