The Cherry Poppin' Daddies are an American rock band formed in 1989 in Eugene, Oregon, by Steve Perry (lead vocals/guitar). While the band has gone through numerous personnel changes, only Perry, Dan Schmid (bass) and Dana Heitman (trumpet) remain from the original incarnation, with Perry and Heitman being the only two constant members throughout the band's twenty year history.

A US politician (Sam Waterston) visits his poet friend (John Heard) in Mont. St. Michael, France. While walking through the medieval island discussing their philosophies of life they happen upon Sonja (Liv Ullman), a scientist in recluse, who joins in their conversation. Neil Young recorded the soundtrack by improvising (mostly on his electric guitar, with some acoustic guitar, piano and organ) as he watched the newly edited film alone in a recording studio -of course, Young did compose the main body of the soundtrack before improvising the entire work. The soundtrack album consists of seven instrumental tracks by Young, with dialog excerpts from the film and Johnny Depp reading the poetry of William Blake interspersed between the music.
