Ex-NDW / Garage Rock

This self-published release did start with 500 copies and was exclusively offered by band's fanshop and during Extrabreit concerts. I bought it at Batschkapp, Frankfurt.
"The band was founded around the end of 1978, when they began their career as part of the Neue Deutsche Welle. Their music is not typical of the NDW genre. It was influenced heavily by western rock music, and their lyrics were often critical of politics and society. The members viewed themselves as punks, whose only association with the NDW was the fact that they appeared at the same time. As testament to that they wrote on their Homepage: "Ja wir haben den Scheiß eben mitgemacht!" (Yeah, we went along with that shit)." en.wickipedia.org

In Germany and the rest of Europe Atlantis' third studio set was released with the title "Ooh Baby" in 1974. Produced by Dieter Dierks the collection was released in the wake of another set of personnel changes including the addition of the English keyboardist Adrian Askew and former Curly Curve lead guitarist Alexander Conti. With Askew and Conti assuming responsibility for the majority of writing duties (Rumpf contributed four tracks), the album found the band pursuing a mixture of German soul (yes it is a genre that exists) and conventional AOR. Propelled by Rumpf's surprisingly funky accented voice, tracks like 'Mr. Bigshot (You Get the Credit)' and 'Smiling People' were more than a match for their Anglo-American competitors. In an effort to break the band in the States the band toured the US opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd. The tour did little for sales, but saw Conti fired (he reappeared with Lake). popsike.com

On the peak of band's career Atlantis released the double album 'Live', recorded at the 'Fabrik' in Inga's hometown Hamburg. The opening track is a kind of central thread for the music and the meaning: 'Friends' was played ever since when Inga and her friends met again. This live recording proves brilliantly Inga Rumpf's development from the City Preacher to the 'Rock'n'Roll Preacher'.

"In early 1975 Inga outgrew Atlantis and continued to expand her musical vision on variety of trips through the USSR, France and England. She also gained inspiration on expeditions with the German boogie institution Vince Weber to New Orleans and Memphis. Following the path of blues, Inga Rumpf gathered new impressions which she creatively transformed in 1977 with her brilliant comeback, "'My Life is a Boogie." She offers pure and passionate rhythm and blues. It's her second solo album with her own music and lyrics" electricflower@ucoz.com

"Blues violinist Sugarcane Harris is on fire during this 1973 studio session for BASF, which features many of his regular collaborators of the period. Harris, who wrote all of the material heard on the date, mixes elements of jazz, country, and rock into his brand of blues. He is brilliant in the midtempo blues "Runnin' Away". "Hattie's Bathtub" is a catchy blues waltz. But it is the extended composition "Cup Full of Dreams" that showcases Harris' lyricism on his instrument." KenDryden@allmusic.com

"As the elder statesman of British blues, it is John Mayall's lot to be more renowned as a bandleader and mentor than as a performer in his own right. Throughout the '60s, his band, the Bluesbreakers, acted as a finishing school for the leading British blues-rock musicians of the era. Mayall continued to be pretty popular in the early '70s. His band was no more stable than ever; at various points some American musicians flitted in and out of the Bluesbreakers, including Canned Heat bassist Larry Taylor, and Don Sugarcane Harris." "The fascination of this record is that Sugarcane won't let himself be pinned down in one category. He has always been, and still is a commuter who travels the routes of jazz, rock and the blues. And, whatever style he may be spotlighting at any one moment, he still puts it all together as only he can. You can hear it on this LP, too, even though it's quite different from his previous MPS records. Here he uses brass and background vocals for the first time and get's a new sound with them. It's Sugarcane's serious attempt to go commercial but without any success. Nevertheless this album is a great piece of music until today." liner notes by Rainer Cabanis

On November 4th, 1971 Don "Sugarcane" Harris did a highly acclaimed concert during the Berlin Jazztage resulting in a album called "Sugar Cane`s Got The Blues" (at least 3 of 4 tracks) . The whole concert had been recorded by a radio station but unfortunately they didn`t keep all the tapes. Good news is, that besides those three tracks of the LP (CD 2009) there are three more tracks available now which had been broadcasted over the radio but never have been released to the public. So here they are in excellent sound quality. various sources

"This album has been recorded live at Berlin Jazz Festival 1971 on Nov 7 in the Philharmonic Hall. Ponty is clearly the dominant force behind this extraordinary violin meeting with Harris, Urbaniak and Brantner, a follow up to his 1966 'Violin Summit' concert with Grappelli, Smith and Asmussen. Fully half of this release is dedicated to Ponty's potent compositions, including an unaccompanied exploration of "Flipping," a duet with Don Sugarcane Harris on "Astrorama," and "Violin Summit No. II," a finale featuring all four men. Unlike it's predecessor of 1966, the rhythm section is strongly fusion oriented and consists of world famous jazz celebrities. An very important example of jazz violin from the early fusion era." allmusic.com

Graphic artist Art Chantry called Tupelo Chain Sex's second album one of the "… best fucking lp's I've ever heard in my life". When the group first entered the Los Angeles music scene, the Los Angeles Times called the group "bizarre" and went on to describe them as "an avant-garde rockabilly combo featuring washboard, harmonica and a singer named Limey Dave who sports a Mohawk, shouts dislocated epics like Elvis Presley Meets E.T., and alters his vocals through an echo device." In a subsequent review of a live performance, The Times declared that one of the group's major musical influences appeared to be derived from dada. wickipedia

'Don & Dewey' recorded several classic, blistering Rock & Roll numbers on the Specialty label and others, but never had any significantly charting hits. It appears that this 1972 album was Dewey Terry's only 'solo' record. It was recorded for the short-lived Tumbleweed record label, based out of Denver, Colorado. The 'Chief' LP is a fun and funky mixed-genre batch of rock, soul, blues and funk. It received a Grammy nomination for Aaron Schumaker's 'writing tablet' artwork and album packaging. john scarrott

Dewey Terry and his friend Don "Sugarcane" Harris performed as the duo 'Don and Dewey', notably touring as a supporting act during one of Little Richard's Rock & Roll comebacks around 1964.
Deweys second album combines several recordings from his final creative period and is obviously intended to represent his musical legacy. Two songs of the album have been recorded already, when Sugarcane was still alive.
Dewey Terry, R&B singer, songwriter and guitarist, was born on July 17, 1937. He died from cancer on May 11, 2003.
